Lola Yamaha ABT returns to China this weekend as the ABB FIA Formula E Championship heads to Shanghai for two action-packed races.

Designed by renowned track designer, Hermann Tilke, the shape of the Shanghai International Circuit resembles the Chinese character “上” (shang), meaning ‘up above’. The 12-turn, 3.051km layout is a shortened version of the traditional Grand Prix track. It features a challenging combination of high-speed straights and tight corners, offering plenty of opportunities for overtaking. PIT BOOST will feature in the first race on Saturday, with Sunday’s E-Prix set to be two laps shorter without the mid-race charge.

After the team secured points for the third race in a row in Sanya, it is looking to continue the streak in Shanghai where it came away with two points last season. Strategy and race execution will be even more important for the team with Zane entering the weekend with a 43-place grid penalty following changes to some elements of his car after damage sustained during qualifying and speeding under a red flag in Sanya.

Lucas di Grassi, #11: “It was great to score points again in Sanya, especially with the penalties we had from Monaco. The team really pulled together to secure a positive result under challenging circumstances. The Shanghai International Circuit is a fast and technical track, with energy and tyre management considerations which will form a key component of strategy planning throughout the weekend. We hope to use this to our advantage and score more points for the team here in China.”

Zane Maloney, #22: “Although we are coming into the weekend with a penalty, I feel confident in the developments the team has continued to make. The expected wet weather combined with the general unpredictability of Formula E means anything can happen. We had good pace here last year, so we need to ensure we are in a position to maximise any opportunities that come our way so we can finish in the points.”

Mark Preston, Team Principal, Lola Yamaha ABT, said: “Sanya was not without its challenges but we saw positive improvements throughout the team which were rewarded with the third top 10 finish in a row. This weekend we need to ensure we pull everything together that we have developed over the last few races, execute our race well and maximise our performance to continue our points scoring streak.”

Round 12 and 13 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship take place on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th July with qualifying at 10:40 and 15:05 CST (UTC +8). Find out where to watch the action where you are here.
